Over One Million Stranded by Torrential Monsoon Floods

Southeastern Bangladesh is facing a devastating humanitarian crisis. Torrential monsoon rains, historic upstream run-off, and destructive landslides have submerged entire communities, leaving over one million people stranded and fighting for survival.

The disaster has already claimed over 50 lives. Across severely affected districts like Cox's Bazar, Chattogram, and Bandarban, more than 267,000 families are currently trapped by rising floodwaters, completely cut off from food, clean water, and dry ground.

Families have been forced onto rooftops or packed into crowded emergency shelters. This is an active, fast-moving emergency, and Human Appeal Canada is mobilizing to deliver life-saving relief.

The Threat Beyond the Water

For families marooned in waterlogged districts, the immediate threat shifts to survival and health:

enter image description here No Clean Water: With water infrastructure damaged and wells submerged, families have no access to safe drinking water, raising the immediate threat of deadly waterborne diseases like cholera.

enter image description here Severe Shortages: Markets are flooded and transportation networks are cut off. Without outside assistance, families who have lost their homes and kitchens have no way to secure their next meal.

enter image description here Vulnerable Shelter: Thousands of makeshift homes and shelters have been heavily damaged or swept away entirely, leaving young children, pregnant women, and the elderly exposed to the elements.

How We Are Responding on the Ground

We are working in real time to assess the evolving situation on the ground. Due to the scale of the damage, we are raising funds for the Bangladesh Emergency Response Fund to keep our relief efforts completely flexible. This allows our teams to deliver exactly what families need most at any given moment.

As our field teams reach isolated and affected communities, your support will help fund:

Emergency Food Aid: Distributing dry food packs and hot meals to families who have lost everything.

Clean Water & Sanitation: Providing clean drinking water, water purification tablets, and hygiene kits to stop the spread of disease.

Emergency Medical Care: Supporting local health networks with essential medicines and first-aid supplies.

Temporary Shelter: Delivering tarpaulins, blankets, and essential materials to help families protect themselves from the ongoing monsoon conditions.

We are on the ground, but we cannot do this alone. Your generosity can be the difference between survival and tragedy for a stranded family in Bangladesh.

"Whoever relieves a believer of some worldly distress, Allah will relieve him of some of the distress of the Day of Resurrection."
