Unable to Fast This Ramadan?

If you are unable to fast during Ramadan due to valid and ongoing reasons such as chronic illness, old age, pregnancy, or nursing, and you cannot make up the fast later, you are required to pay Fidya.

How Much Is Fidya?

The cost of Fidya is calculated per missed fast and provides two meals to a vulnerable person.

• $10 – Fidya for 1 day provides two meals to someone in need.
• $50 – Fidya for 5 days provides ten meals.
• $300 – Fidya for the full month provides 60 meals to vulnerable individuals.

If you missed the entire month of Ramadan due to valid reasons, paying $300 will fulfil your obligation and provide essential nourishment to those facing hunger.

What Does Your Fidya Provide?

Through Human Appeal’s food distribution programmes, your Fidya delivers nutritious meals to vulnerable communities across multiple countries experiencing poverty, displacement and food insecurity.

Many of the communities we serve are:

• Hosting families who have fled conflict
• Recovering from violence and instability
• Struggling with rising food costs and limited access to essentials

Your Fidya becomes immediate food relief for someone who may not know when their next meal will come.

In total, a full month’s Fidya provides 60 meals, giving dignity and nourishment throughout Ramadan.

When Should You Pay Fidya?

If you are permanently unable to fast and cannot make up your missed days later, Fidya must be paid for each fast missed.

If you know that you won’t be able to make up the fasts you’ll miss this Ramadan at a later date, then it’s preferable to pay your Fidya in advance, so that you can help vulnerable people to break their fast during Ramadan.
