Zakat al-Fitr is an obligatory charity paid at the end of Ramadan to support those in need. Every member of a household—including children and the elderly—is required to give, provided the family has enough to meet their own basic needs.

To fulfill the obligation, Zakat al-Fitr must be paid before the Eid prayer. If paid later, it is considered ordinary charity (Sadaqah) and does not fulfill the specific Ramadan requirement.
